Proposal to do away with Plus Two examinations too radical: Mohan Parasaran

The ambitious proposal of the Ministry of Human Resource Development for doing away with examinations till Plus Two will be “too radical” (to implement), the Additional Solicitor General of India , Mohan Parasaran, said on Friday.

“We can only tinker with the system. It is very difficult to change the entire system overnight. We cannot actually do away with the system,” he said, addressing the Annual Day celebration of Sri Vageesha Vidhyashram, a CBSE institution.

“When the proposal came for legal reforms, we said we cannot completely change the system. People will not readily accept it,” he said. “We should actually think of streamlining the entire pattern of education,” he said, and advocated strengthening of the existing system.

Mr. Parasaran who donated a van worth Rs.10 lakh to the school was appreciative of the academic standards of the students and felt certain about the institution’s transformation into a college and a world-class university. He had a special word of praise for the students who anchored the programme, saying: “The students have performed better than anchors in national television channels.”

He was critical of Indian news channels and felt that the country’s news channels had become commercialised and did not present any news of great value when compared to the BBC or the CNN. “They (Indian news channels) only compete with each other because they have lots of stakes,” he said.

Waning value system

Expressing concern over the waning value system in the country, he apprehended that the negative vibes of the Western culture that influenced the younger generation through electronic media and the Internet was the cause for the fall in educational attainment of Indians. The fall in values was due to various factors including the neglect of the joint family system, he felt, observing that even nuclear families were disintegrating. India was going worse than the West where people were gradually taking a liking to the joint family system, Mr. Parasaran pointed out.

He honoured meritorious students with prizes along with the School Advisor and Principal of Urumu Dhanalakshmi College K. Sekar, and the Principal of R.S.K. Higher Secondary School P. Varadarajan.

V. Rajagopalan, Industrialist and Trustee, SVRS Trust, presided over. Presenting the annual report, the Principal T.S. Vijayasree said the institution’s partnership with the community aims to promote the educational, personal, social and civic values.

Ranjitha, Lenin Karuppa attempted to blackmail together to trap Swami Nithyananda

Ranjitha, who recently got alleged with Swami Nithyananda in a sex scandal, is said to have attempted for a suicide. The scandal video was aired by the popular Tamil channel Sun TV on March 2. No news of either of the two was known thereafter. People were so angry and desperate that they attacked the ashrams of Swamiji.
Nithyananda (1)ranjitha-1
Ranjitha was a devotee to Swamiji. She was a divorcee to an army man and visited Nithyananda after suffering from depression due to the marriage failure. Later she became too close to Nithyananda that she made her presence all the time in the ashram. Buzz is also that the video was created by Ranjitha herself to blackmail Nithyananda. She wanted a married life with Nithyananda and is said that this possessiveness made her to trap Nithyananda.

Ranjitha was introduced to him three years back by actress K R Vijaya’s niece Sudha, a full-time devotee. Later on Swami’s charm made her fall for him and she even decided to shift base from Chennai to Bangalore. After getting intimate with Swami, she is said to have asked him to marry her and even got a positive response. Later he was worried about the property worth several hundred crore rupees that he would have to give up. Lenin Karuppa also attempted to blackmail Swamiji but he failed. So it is said that both have planned together to trap Swami Nithyananda.

By the time Nithyananda’s lawyer confirmed that Nithyananda is in Varanasi attending Kumbha Mela with his 4000 devotees. He is to return back on March 18. He also claimed that the woman in the video has covered her neck and that Nithyananda’s face is a morphed one.

Nithyananda claimed that he had done nothing illegal

Self-styled Godman Swami Nithyananda, who was in an eye of storm after having been caught in camera in a compromising position with a Tamil film actress, today claimed that he had done nothing illegal, even as special teams fanned out to several states to find the whereabouts of the Swamiji.
NITHYANANDA
Speaking in a VCD, sent through his lawyer, the Godman, without going into the specifics of the controversy surrounding his sleazy acts, said neither he nor the Ashram run by him had committed any wrong doing.

”Neither I nor the Ashram had done anything illegal,” he said, speaking in Tamil in the CD, without confirming or denying his sleazy acts.

The VCDs, sent by the Godman from an undislcosed destination, to the Ashram lawyer, were circulated to a section of the media today.

The contents of the speech were telecast by a private Tamil Satellite Channel which had beamed the pictures of the Godman with the actress.

He said he was in the process of collecting details and truth with regard to the charges and allegations levelled against him.

Observing that he would face them legally, the Godman said he would soon place the entire truth before the public after collecting all necessary details and evidence.

The Godman’s statement comes a day after his former aide Nithya Dharmananda alias Lenin Karuppan, owned up having shot the sexual acts of his former Guru and distributed them to the media. He had claimed that he had shot the scenes of Nityananda in a compromising position with the actress with the help of the Ashram inmates in Bangalore and distributed the tape to the media to save the lives of young women devotees.

The former aide listed a slew of complaints against the ”Spiritual Guru” and alleged that Swami Nityananda, claiming himself as an ‘Avtar’ of Lord Krishna, had sexually exploited the women devotees, describing them as Gopikas.
Nithyananda
The disciple of the Godman also alleged in his complaint that the the Swamiji and his supporters also threatened to eliminate him and he managed to escape from their clutches and reach Chennai.

Based on a complaint from Lenin, police have slapped six cases against the Godman, including cheating, criminal intimidation, sexual abuse, conspiracy, and for hurting the sentiments of Hindus.

Even as Chennai City Police Commissioner T Rajendran yesterday said all the cases pertaining to the Godman would be transferred to Bengaluru since the entire incident had taken place at the Ashram at Bidadi, three special teams formed to trace his whereabouts fanned to Bangalore, Coimbatore and Palakkad. Acting on reports that the Swamiji was reportedly staying in his Ashram in Palakkad, a team had been sent there to confirm the veracity of the reports, though the Ashram officials maintained that the Godman was participating in Khumbh Mela in North India.

Police sources said of the six cases registered against the Godman, five cases would be transferred to Bengaluru and the one pertaining to holding out murder threat to his former disciple Nithya Dharmananda, for filming the sleazy acts, would be probed by the City police.

After the probe, a report would be sent to the Bangalore police for further action.

CPI(M) workers attack a private Tamil Channel which claimed WRV’s death row

Enraged activists of CPI(M) today attacked a private Tamil Satellite Channel which claimed that the missing Marxist leader W R Varadarajan, who had presumably committed suicide, had in fact been murdered.

The Channel owned by the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), in its news bulletin since last night, quoted the post mortem report and said the veteran CPI(M) leader, who went missing on February 11, was strangulated to death.

To substantiate its claim, the channel said the strangulation marks on the either side of the neck suggested that Varadarajan was strangulated to death and his body was thrown into a lake.

Taking objections to the report, CPI(M) workers, carrying party flags, picketed the Channel office, staged an agitation and pelted stones, damaging the window panes.

Not to be outdone, a PMK Ward Councillor, along with his supporters attacked the CPI(M) State Office at Vaidhyaraman street in T Nagar and damaged the window panes.

A highly decomposed body was recovered from a lake on February 13 and was kept in the mortuary of the Government Hospital. Later it was identified as that of Varadarajan by his family members and the Party leaders and the body was cremated on February 20.

Heartbeat and the pressure on people rise as temperature soars

When the calendar starts to show the month of March, the heartbeat and the pressure on people rise as temperature soars. That makes people think about how to beat the heat.

Not only people, also TV channels, radio, newspapers and other media organisations begin working overtime with advertisements of accessories and appliances to beat the summer with.

‘This year, the heat is going to be worse and as long,’ says product manager (Large Appliances) of Viveks Balaji. He adds that the summer would extend from the first week of March to July. Companies which deal with white goods would monitor temperature
every day and get hooked on to the weather forecast. All for what? Of course to push their goods.

Since hoardings have been banned, the companies have now begun to focus on the print media by coming out with advertisements, huge discounts, extended warranty period, free gifts, free installations, etc, etc.

‘Customers have already started visiting showrooms for enquiring and purchasing appliances that would see them through the heat,’ says LG area manager Kalidoss.

He adds that the manufacturers like them have started coming out with advertisements and commercials.

Area manager (coolers and ACs) of Samsung Praveen says, ‘We expect sales to be 20 per cent more than that of last year.’

The sales of the home appliances are expected to soar so also the sales of juice the price of which has gone up.

‘The market for juice is for the whole year, as it is preferred to water sachets during the afternoon time’, says Manickam, the owner of a bakery. He adds that the sales would rise from now on.

He says people go in for branded lemon juice bottles, while mango juice comes next. He adds that the case is vice- versa during the other days.

On the contrary, owners, who run fresh juice shops outside the malls, restaurants, say that people like sweet lime and grape juice. They say that the sales are bound to triple soon.

While the people who make business with juice enjoy the hot season, the other groups which sell seasonal products have started to sell fruits. As a result, one sees more pavement stalls selling sherbert, lemon, sugarcane, orange and grape juice, and tender coconuts.

Vijayalakshmi, who sells tender coconut, says that water- melons have come to Koyambedu and the season for them is off to a steady start.
‘Usually, the season for water- melons starts from March and ends in June. This year, it has started from the second half of February and would extend till June- end’, she adds.

Chennai Corporation, political parties and the NGOs also have started to set up water booths on the roadside and water parks are bound to be overcrowded.

So the ways and means of beating the summer may be different, but the aim is the same — keep everyone cool and making a fast buck of it.
