A farmer, Kandasamy lodged a complaint against Erode MLA raja
A farmer, Kandasamy, 47, and his wife Padmini lodged a complaint against Erode MLA and former minister N K K P Raja at Veerappanchathram police station here on Sunday.
Kandasamy, who came with some of his neighbours, told news persons waiting outside the police station that he and his father Karupanna Goundar had taken on lease a 9.69- acre land at Pichakattukarai, ward-1 of Periyasemur municipality, from the landowner E K M A Sali Abi of BP Agraharam.
“We have been staying there in a house for the past eight decades. When Raja became a minister in 2006, six of his associates bought the land from the lady. They did allow me to buy 93.6 cents at a cost of Rs 10.5 lakh but nine months back, forced me to sell 43.6 cents to another person. However, I did not get any money for that,” he alleged.
“The area was developed as a housing plot and stones were laid in the name of a real estate firm. Saturday afternoon, Raja, along with 10 persons, came to my house in a car and asked my wife where I had gone. My son Saravanan gave him my cell phone number.
Raja then talked to me through cell phone for six minutes and asked me to meet him with records for his piece of land within two days,” Kandasamy said.

My pick is Ponni Sugars target for the day is Rs 149

Tulsian told CNBC-TV18, “My pick is Ponni Sugars. In fact sugar has been my favourable sector.

My preference goes more for the Tamil Nadu sugar based companies for the simple reason that they have a higher crushing days, they have about more than 200 days in this season, also they have the prospects of raw processing also. In fact if you see all the companies in south, they have been going for raw sugar processing which adds extra sweetener in the time of the shortage. The target for the day is Rs 149.”
He further added, “For FY09, they had an EPS of close to about Rs 14 while in H1 they have already posted an EPS of Rs 17. Going by the improved realization because you have the almost fixed price for the sugarcane, while you keep fetching a higher price for your sugar and we have already seen sugar prices ex-mill in Tamil Nadu going as high as Rs 34-35 per kilogram and I won’t be surprised if in next couple of months it goes to Rs 40. So obviously the profitability of the company is likely to get further improved and in FY10 we can expect the company to post an EPS of Rs 40.”
RSS women’s wing calls for protecting culture
Rashtriya Sevika Samithi, women’s wing of RSS, has appealed to people, especially the women, to protect the ancient culture, heritage and tradition of the country.
The samithi’s three-day state-level conference in connection with the centenary of its former president Saraswati Tai Apte began here on Friday. Over 1,200 representatives from all over the State are taking part in the meet.
The samithi’s state general secretary Gomathi Naveen told reporters that, “Our main aim is to consolidate women power to protect our ancient culture and tradition, as it is at stake due to the invasion of alien culture through the media. We have been campaigning among girls not to wear T-shirts, jeans, other modern dresses and cut their hair according to western style.” She asserted that the samithi’s members will not stage any agitations in this regard but just campaign in a peaceful manner in their respective areas.
To a question on the delay in giving 33 per cent reservation to women in Parliament and state legislatures, she said that women have even a right to claim 50 per cent quota as they form nearly half of the total population.
Noting that women are presently occupying some of the highest positions as President, Lok Sabha Speaker, Leader of the Opposition, etc she pointed out that, “this does not mean that all women have attained progress and got their due share in society. That is why we are trying to empower women by running several vocational training centres and involving them in various social service activities.

It also says the then State Minister for Handlooms and Textiles N.K.K.P. Raja laid the foundation on June 8, 2008 for the facility, which comes under Wards 8 and 9 of Kasipalayam Municipality.
It has been almost a year-and-half since the foundation was laid and in the period nothing much has happened in that the Municipality is yet to develop the park.
All that is there on the piece of land, about 40 cents, are a half-constructed pathway, a few play materials and dismantled gate, which is rusting.
Stagnant rain water in a tank and half-covered well are also to be seen there. The compound serves as a cloth drying facility for people of the locality. There is no greenery or anything that bears semblance to a park. But for the tablet on the compound, there is nothing to declare the area a park.
Residents of the area say they expected the Kasipalayam Municipality to develop the plot as a park once it laid the foundation but nothing much has happened.
They also say that with the foundation nothing much as changed as the area continues to be the way it was prior to the foundation laying ceremony as well.
Ward 9 Councillor Amutha Sakthivel says the civic body did make a beginning but could not proceed because of shortage of funds and rain.
Initially the Council approved development works Rs. 2.5 lakh but they got delayed for various reasons that include rain. The Council has again sanctioned Rs. 4 lakh for completing the park, she says and clarifies that as the park is under development the gate has been removed and the land is undulated.
Chairman M. Subramanian says the civic body proposes to set up fountain, green cover the area, install lights and more play materials for the children.
Pathway around the plot will also be laid and he promises that the works will get over in three months time.
