GOODALUR (THENI DISTRICT): A new grape processing-cum-wine manufacturing factory will be set up in the valley within two months, announced M.K. Stalin, Deputy Chief Minister.

He kick-started his second leg of mid-term election campaign in Cumbum constituency for DMK candidate N. Ramakrishnan here on Friday.

This facility will help grape growers in the valley, one of the biggest grape producing centres in the district, get better price for their produce and utilise the total production locally, he added.

“It is a long pending demand of grape growers in the valley. Their dream will become a reality shortly.”

Moreover, the government has been implementing several schemes for the benefit of farmers and development of agriculture. For example, 18th canal scheme was implemented for the benefit of thousands of farmers in rain-fed and dry areas in the other side of the valley. Water passing through 18th channel has been stored in 44 irrigation tanks and distributed for irrigation. Such measure will also enhance groundwater table and recharge irrigation wells.

The government has also been implementing several schemes for development of women. The good governance should continue in future. So the voters should continue their support and cooperation to the DMK-led state government, he appealed.

The government has fulfilled all its election promises in the three year period. But it went one step further and introduced many welfare schemes like medical insurance scheme for poor and downtrodden.

Mr. Stalin started his campaign at Lower Camp 5.30 p.m., and campaigned at Goodalur, Cumbum, Pudhupatti, Anumanthanpatti and Uthamapalayam. Crowd was impressive at all campaign spots.
