The Walt Disney Company is stepping up its production initiatives in India.

The Walt Disney Company is stepping up its production initiatives in India. The company is betting big on localisation and charting a roadmap to create 14 new family-oriented films in India. Five of these projects are in advanced stages of planning.
Walt Disney Company
According to the company, outside the US, India is one of the largest markets that the company has invested in for local production.

Mahesh Samat, managing director, The Walt Disney Company (India) said: “We are pretty serious about India. Local content will make the Disney brand more relevant in India. Going forward our efforts will be to invest in Hindi films. Outside the US, India is the top market for investment in local content. There are a few projects in the regional space as well and we are starting with south India. It is an important market and will help in increasing Disney’s brand presence and relevance throughout India .”

The still-to-be-named South Indian epic fantasy is scheduled for release in January next year. The Telegu-language movie, which will be dubbed in Tamil, is expected to increase the company’s appeal in the south Indian market.

Disney, however, refused to divulge investment and timeline details on 14 other projects.

Executives of The Walt Disney Co recently received the Foreign Investment Promotion Board’s approval to invest Rs 1,000 crore in India.

Other Hollywood companies are also looking at production as the new business opportunity. Warner Bros and Fox Star studio have already announced their plans to go beyond “just” distribution.

Vijay Singh, chief executive officer, Star-Fox said, “We are in the process of establishing ourselves as a one-stop shop for producers and are looking to co-produce at least five Bollywood films in India on an average.”

Poongothai says, Animation and Gaming industry promote language

Animation and Gaming industry provided greater advantage to promote language, art and culture, Tamil Nadu Information Technology Minister Poongothai Aladi Aruna said today.
Poongothai Aladi Aruna
Inaugurating Media Arts and Science College (MASC) at Neelankarai, near here, she said ”we can take our art, culture and language to all corners of the world, through animation of our mythological tales and life history of our distinguished personalities of the past.

Through animation the life history of personalities like revolutionary poets Bharathiyaar and Bharathidasan could be spread and indigenous games like Pallankuzhi and Snake and Ladder could be introduced.” She offered the first admission letter to a differently abled student residing in a destitute home in Chennai at the MASC, a first of its kind college dedicated for Media Education.

”Tamil Nadu is a thriving base for knowledge and economy.

Our State stands exemplary in all of its endeavors, be it growth of IT and manufacturing industries, IT policies, computer education, introducing Tamil keyboards or dedication of Tamil virtual university for the language lovers across the globe etc,” she said.

In the past four years around 48,000 crore has been invested in the State for industrial growth and aims at bringing holistic and equitable growth by removing rural-urban divide, she remarked. Mr Purushothaman, Regional Director, NASSCOM, said ”with respect to Animation and Gaming industry, India suffers talent crunch. The Animation and Gaming industry expected to grow to one billion US dollars and 830 million dollars by 2012 needs talented youngsters with adequate skill sets.
Animation and Gaming industry
Along with development of skills, English proficiency would help our country to do cross border projects and also bring end-to-end development in the industry.

Ms Amy Hirsch, Vice Consul, United States Consulate General, who graced the occasion, said ”India is a great source of education, but it is learnt that only 10 per cent of the students who have secondary education have access to higher studies.” More importance to education and gaining of practical knowledge will accelerate the growth of India. The tie-up between India and US in education is expected to bring a marvelous change and various expansion and scholarship programmes are being planned,

Ajith, Vijay and Vikram in play the lead roles if ‘3 Idiots’ remade in Tamil

“Ajith, Vijay and Vikram will be the right choices to play the lead roles if ‘3 Idiots’ is remade in Tamil,” says Madhavan, one of the lead players of the Hindi hit, directed by Rajkumar Hirani.
madhavan
Talking about why he turned down an offer to repeat the act in Tamil, Maddy adds, “Because, I had already given my heart and soul to the character I played in the Hindi version. So I don’t think it will be interesting if I do the Tamil remake too.”

On suggesting Ajith, Vikram and Vijay for the Kollywood version, he says, “The film will sure become a super hit here if the three come forward to join forces. The top actors would fit to the roles well besides adding star value to the movie.”
vijay.Vikramajith
Draw his attention to the fact that he is not acting in Tamil films of late, Madhavan says, “That is my mistake. Since I delivered few flops, I wanted to take a break and concentrate on Hindi movies. But I am making a comeback with Kamal (Haasan) sir’s next venture.”
